Overwatch 2 Reaches Steam On August 10

Overwatch 2 Reaches Steam On August 10

If you want to play Blizzard games like Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and more, you'll know you need to use Battle.net, but not for long... the developer is making its games available on Steam starting August 10 on your Gaming PC.

Yeah, you'll need to still sign in through Battle.net to play the Blizzard games through Steam... but it's a step in the right direction. Battle.net first launched in 1996 after the release of the original Diablo, but now the Blizzard team has said that the Steam release of Overwatch 2 and what the developer has teased is just a "selection of our games" wouldn't be making things different and moving away from Battle.net, but instead, it expands on the Battle.net launcher.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra explains: "While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we've heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games". He added that "gaming is no longer just for specific communities as it was when Battle.net launched over two decades ago, gaming is for everyone -- and though we remain committed to continually investing in and supporting Battle.net, we want to break down the barriers to make it easier for players everywhere to find and enjoy our games".

Overwatch 2 will be enjoying its major Invasion update on August 10, the day it also debuts on Steam. The new Invasion update for Overwatch 2 will be adding new story missions, a new competitive mode, two new maps, an additional hero, and much more.

Lord GabeN aka Gabe Newell, the president of Valve, said in a statement: "Gamers and developers are both going to benefit from Overwatch 2 coming to Steam. Gamers will have another platform where they can play a beloved game that utilises the capabilities of Steam, and developers will benefit from the effects of having the talented team at Blizzard helping us evolve our supported features and functionality for Overwatch 2".
